, Mariano was trained by Gonzalo Pieres Sr. and played for the Ellerstina Polo Team, with which he won the “Triple Crown” (Argentine Open, Hurlingham Open and Copa Anchorena) in 1994. But his international career as a professional player started even earlier, when he won the USPA Gold Cup with the White Birch Team in 1987. Seven more USPA Gold Cups followed, other important wins include the Sotogrande Gold Cup and the Whitney Cup.

He participated 15 times in the Argentine Open, won 7 times and took part in the final another 2 times.
