Maria-Rickenbach is a Benedictine convent above the village of Niederrickenbach
in the center of Switzerland
in the canton of Nidwalden
that is accessible only by cable car.
The convent was established after a 1528 painting of the Madonna was placed in a hollow maple tree. Subsequently unable to remove the painting the church and nunnery were established around the tree which is now a shrine. The convent is often associated with Engelberg Abbey
