 and is currently the Government Whip. Margaret has previously served as the Minister for Child Safety and Women in the Bligh Government and Minister for Tourism, Fair Trading and Wine Industry Development in the previous Beattie Government.

Margaret and her husband Peter and their three children, James, Joshua and Helen, have lived in Albert since 1980.

. As a teacher, Margaret has a long and distinguished career educating students from kindergarten to post-graduate university.

Margaret's international work experiences include Papua New Guinea, Malaysia and Japan, where she has lectured as a professional development officer and educator. Margaret is passionate about the role of education in helping young people reach their full potential.

Margaret is active in the local community. In 1981, Margaret started the first public playgroup in Beenleigh and later established the popular Sunday craft market in Main St. Margaret is the co-founder of the local Residents Association and was chair of the Beenleigh Police District Community Consultative Committee.

Margaret has a small business background and is a member of the Beenleigh Yatala Chamber of Commerce.

Margaret has a Master of Arts, a Bachelor of Economics, a Graduate Diploma in Teaching and a Graduate Diploma in Applied Linguistics.

After many years of dedicated public service, Margaret remains passionate about serving her growing community. She describes her job as "the best in the world" and enjoys working hard every day to make a difference in the lives of the people of Albert.

Margaret opposed legislation permitting civil unions in Queensland, passed on 30 November 2011. She is quoted in the Sydney Morning Herald website (1 December 2011) as saying she was "a Christian and that civil unions mirror marriage in all but name and undermines the institution." Her comments on the recent Kim Kardashian marriage and how it strengthens the institution of marriage are unknown.
