. He was first elected in 2002 and re-elected in 2004, 2006, and 2008. At the time of his election to the Florida House of Representatives, Marcelo was the third youngest person ever elected to that body.

On June 17, 2009 Marcelo Llorente announced that he will be running for Mayor of Miami-Dade County in 2012. The election will now take place in 2011, due to a recall of the current mayor.
