From the late 1990s Franquelo has worked and collaborated with Adam Lowe and engineer Sven Nebel, creating the Factum Arte studio together. Franquelo originally trained as an electronic engineer, and now produces installations and sculptures often incorporating electronics

In 2001, Franquelo and Nebel completed a 13-year project to construct a millimeter-accurate replica of the Altamira caves

 to allow the public to experience the prehistoric paintings preserved in the original cave. And now with Lowe, he is working on a project to laser-scan and replicate the tomb of Seti I
