living together, 7.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.9% were non-families. 20.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 6.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.91 and the average family size was 3.41.
In the village the population was spread out with 32.4% under the age of 18, 8.0% from 18 to 24, 33.1% from 25 to 44, 19.2% from 45 to 64, and 7.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 32 years. For every 100 females there were 103.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.3 males.

History
Manhattan was incorporated in 1886. It is an old and established community. Due to railroad construction in the mid-19th century, many immigrants, especially Irish, moved to the area. It was eventually incorporated to obtain a saloon license. Having its roots in farming, the village has grown over the last ten years to accommodate over 6,071 people. Its forebears of German and Irish heritage give expression in the early spring festival Irish Fest.Geography
