History

Demographics

As per 2001 census, Manbazar I block had a total population of 127,609, out of which 64,310 were males and 63,299 were females. Manbazar I block registered a population growth of 8.56 per cent during the 1991-2001 decade. Decadal growth for Purulia district was 13.96 per cent.Decadal growth in West Bengal was 17.84 per cent.

In Manbazar I CD Bloc the scheduled caste population was 31,233 and the scheduled tribe population was 30,402. Each of these groups formed about a quarter of the total population.

Literacy

As per 2001 census, Manbazar I block had a total literacy of 55.09 per cent for the 6+ age group. While male literacy was 74.00 per cent female literacy was 35.94 per cent. Purulia district had a total literacy of 55.57 per cent, male literacy being 73.72 per cent and female literacy being 36.50 per cent.
