Biography

Mak received a Young Artist Award from the Funda Arts Center in Soweto when he was five years old. Following a near fatal accident, which left him severely disabled, Mak started writing poetry when he was fourteen. His first public performance was at in Lugano

 (1998). Mak has travelled extensively as a performance poet, contributing to several international festivals. He was nominated for The Daimler Chrysler Poet of the Year 2005 Award.

Mak is the son of the late Mr Matsamela Manaka (1956 - 1998), a renowned poet, choreographer, percussionist and human rights activist and Mrs Nomsa Manaka.

He has published a collection of poetry If Only (2002) and produced an album, Word Sound Power.
