The rotary marks the beginning of the Dow Highway. Passing under the Route 1 Bypass and over Interstate 95, the route heads along the former right-of-way of the B&M Railroad until a T-intersection with Main Street (Route 4), the end of the Dow Highway. Route 236 runs briefly with Route 4 through downtown South Berwick
