. MIT has six schools with a strong emphasis on social work, community development, scientific and technological research.

MIT was founded in 2008 in response to the increasing expansion in primary and secondary education in Kenya over the years and a lack of corresponding increase in mid-level training colleges and universities. This led to the inability of majority of KCSE school leavers to access training, leading to a huge training gap.

MIT enrolled 300 students and employed 30 faculty members in the 2008/09 school year.

The institute offers short, certificate, diploma and advanced diploma courses. The institute runs consultancy services in all its schools.

The main campus is located at the Machakos-Mombasa road junction.

Schools

MIT is divided into six schools:
  • The School of Social Work and Community Development
  • The School of Counseling and Psychology
  • The School of Applied and Health Sciences
  • The School of Business Education
  • The School of Computing and Information Technology
