M-151 began on Saint Anthony Road at a junction with US 223 just north of Ottawa Lake. The route passed through rural areas as it traveled east towards Monroe

M-151 was added to the state trunkline system in 1931. At that time, the road served as a connector between Niles

. In 1935, the designation was removed from this alignment and shifted to a new one between US 223 and US 25 in the southeastern portion of the state. The route continued in this capacity until 1965 when all of the road east of US 23 was turned back to local control, and the remaining portion was consumed by a new routing of US 223. The designation has not been used since this time. Locally, even though it is no longer part of the state highway system, the road is still referred to as "M-151."
