Biography

Ortiz-Monasterio studied under Ignacio Asúnsolo at the Academia de San Carlos from 1921 to 1924. After a study trip to California

 until 1926, he became professor of sculpture at the Academia de San Carlos, and for a second time from 1931 to 1962 in its follow-on institution, the Escuela Nacional de Artes Plásticas (ENAP) of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). He also lectured at the Instituto Politécnico Nacional (IPN), at the art schools of the Secretaría de Educación Pública
