In 1954, aged age 50, he published a "plaquette" containing nine poetries which he mailed to Eugenio Montale
. Montale, impressed by the high quality of Lucio Piccolo's poetry, invited him to participate in the San Pellegrino Literary Meeting. His works were published that year as Canti barocchi ("Baroque Chants").
He died at Capo d'Orlando
in 1969.
