Most of her movies were B-movies and serials, often having her portraying the heroine. Her first film was in 1940, when she starred in Billy the Kid Outlawed. In 1941 she starred in the Adventures of Captain Marvel
opposite Tom Tyler
, and that same year she had an uncredited role in the classic movie Citizen Kane
. From 1940 to 1949 she would have roles, many of which were starring, in thirty nine films. She did a few television
appearances in 1950 and 1951, after which she retired from acting.
She had married actor John Whitney during her careers peak, but the marriage did not last and ended in divorce. She then married former actor John Good, and the two opened a private business remodeling and redecorating houses. The business was successful, and the two remained together until his death. In 1944 she had starred opposite Hollywood legend Bela Lugosi
in Voodoo Man. Along with actress Lucille Lund
and others, she took part in the 1997 documentary Lugosi: Hollywood's Dracula, which detailed the life and acting career of Bela Lugosi. In 2002 she married Grover Asmus, former husband to actress Donna Reed

On May 17, 2010 she made an appearance at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences
in Beverly Hills to introduce a screening of a restored print of the first chapter of the Captain Marvel serial. She made repeat appearances the following week (May 24) for chapter two and when the final chapter screened (August 16).
