during World War I. As of the United States 2000 Census, the CDP population was 1,818.

, the CDP has a total area of 12.2 km2 (4.7 mi²), all land. There are several bodies of water, including several man-made lakes used for agriculture and a portion of the Raritan River
that are not included in the calculation of water area. Also, much of Long Valley is part of Schooley's Mountain
, a tall ridge that contrasts greatly with the rest of the region. The cozy town is a wonderful living location for new families.

, and 0.55% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.27% of the population.
There were 654 households out of which 36.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.0% were married couples
living together, 7.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.1% were non-families. 16.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 4.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.75 and the average family size was 3.15.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 25.3% under the age of 18, 5.1% from 18 to 24, 33.3% from 25 to 44, 27.3% from 45 to 64, and 8.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 101.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.8 males.
The median income for a household was $97,763, and the median income for a family was $104,926. Males had a median income of $76,791 versus $41,759 for females. The per capita income was $37,489. About 1.8% of families and 2.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 2.0% of those under age 18 and 4.0% of those age 65 or over.
