Liuyang shares an important place in the history of the origination of fireworks. These flowers as the Chinese name implies (literally Fire Flower) are not just appreciated by Chinese but have also been appreciated by people from numerous countries and cultures.

The Liuyang River is the main source for irrigation in Liuyang. There is also a very famous song named "Liuyanghe", composed in 1950 by Tang Biguang and Xu Shuhua, the theme of which relates to the river and the nearby village of Shaoshan
