Many episodes begin with Colbert providing a joke-based summary of the topics covered within the episode prior to the opening titles; this summary ends with an introductory phrase which gives an example of the Colbert character
's twisted logic or values. Finally, each episode contains at least one in-studio guest interview, though sometimes more. In the case of musicians, the final segment is given over to a musical performance by said guest.
