The restructuring were finalised in October 2006, some of the old Primary Care Trusts are amalgamated with others to form a new PCT while others are split with its constituent parts being subsumed into several new PCTs. The number of PCTs reduced from 303 to 152. This happened alongside with the restructuring of the Strategic Health Authorities (SHAs), of which the number reduced from 28 to 10.
