The new Linganore High School includes many contemporary construction features. Light and motion sensors are used to control lights in classrooms, offices, common areas, and hallways to reduce energy usage. Pervious pavement on some exterior walkways reduces rainfall runoff. A magnetic chiller, part of the air conditioning system, is the next generation of lower-maintenance systems used in the building industry.
The new school features many state-of-the-art features for students. Eight full-sized computer labs, some of which are tiered, provide opportunities for Linganore students to use current software and on-line resources for research and classroom activities. Additional subject-specific labs provide opportunities to use specialized software. Interactive boards have been installed in nearly all classrooms. These boards can be used in host of ways, from traditional to cutting-edge, to provide instruction that allows for a wide variety of classroom activities.

Linganore High School's students are so passionate about sports that at all sporting events the students gather to form a student section which has been named "The Tribe".
Also, Ice Hockey has become a big sport in the Frederick, Maryland area; Especially at Linganore High school.

History
Opened in 1962, Linganore High School Junior-Senior High School was built to serve the eastern section of Frederick, Maryland, including New Market, Libertytown, Mount Pleasant, Kemptown, Johnsville, Monrovia and Bartonsville. The first class graduated in 1963. For nearly 20 years, Linganore served students in grades 7-12. Eventually middle schools were opened to serve students in grades 6-8 and Linganore then became Linganore High School, educating students in grades 9-12. In its lifetime, the original school building had 3 additions, first in 1972 and then again in both 1983 and 1985. The original building was razed in 2008 to allow for the construction of the current school building, which was dedicated on August 12, 2010 and opened for the first day of the 2010-2011 school year on August 23, 2010.School renovations
The original Linganore High School opened in February 1962. The original building closed in June, 2008 and was demolished to allow for a new Linganore High School to be built on the original site. Notable accomplishments
- In 2003, teacher Darren Hornbeck won the Maryland Teacher of the Year award, the first such honor for a Frederick County teacher. Mr. Hornbeck still teaches at LHS and coordinates the school's professional development program. Mr. Hornbeck continues to be one of the student's favorite teachers.
- In 2005, teacher Mr. Mark Sunkel, chairperson of the Science Department, was the 2005 Frederick County Teacher of the Year.
- In 2009, the school was honored by The Maryland Department of Education for excellence in student participation and achievement in the Advanced Placement Program.
- In 2010, the Academic Team won the Frederick County Academic Tournament. This championship was the ninth for Linganore, the most of any Frederick County High School.
- In 2010, Margarita Doughty, chairperson of the World Languages Department, was named an Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher by The Washington Post. Mrs. Doughty joins Ms. Natalie Evans, chairperson of the English Department, and Mr. Kevin Lloyd, chairperson of the visual and performing arts department, who have received this honor in previous years.
- In 2010, Theresa Wiltrout, biology teacher, was selected to receive the Charles Tressler Award for Outstanding Teaching. This award, sponsored by Hood College (Frederick, MD) recognizes one Frederick County teacher annually for excellence in teaching
