History

The original Lincoln High School opened on September 9, 1912 with an inaugural student body of 300 on a site acquired from the Hasbrouck Institute,a private school. In January 1916, the school graduated its first class of 32 students. In 1934, the school had an enrollment of 5,000 students, making it the second largest in the state.

Academics

Lincoln High School hosts a number of magnet programs that pertain to the interest of the students. For example, the magnet programs include Culinary Arts, Cosmetology, JROTC, and Business & Marketing.

Violence

Lincoln High School has been the site of two shootings, one allegedly gang related, in 2002 and 2006 and the stabbing of a student in April 2007. There was also a brawl at the school on May 10, 2010, leading to the arrest of 6 students.

The boys basketball team won the North I, Group III in 2002 state sectional championship with a 50-41 win against Sparta High School

 in the tournament final. The 2006 - 2007 boy's varsity basketball team claimed the HCIAA championship over now defunct Union Hill High School, 50 - 46. The 2008 team won the North II, Group II state sectional title with a 61-58 win over Orange High School

 in the tournament final. On March 9, 2008 the basketball team went on to win the school's first Group II state title over Collingswood High School in blowout fashion 88 - 70.

FOOTBALL:
The varsity football won state championships in 1972 and 1981.

In 2009 the Lions finished the season at 8-2, losing in the first round of the NJSIAA Section 2 Group I state playoffs. In 2010, the Lions built on their wave of success, going 7-2 during the regular season, the Lions went back to the playoffs. Their regular season highlight was erasing an 18-0 deficit to Hoboken to win 42-18.

In the 2010 NJSIAA Section 2 Group I playoffs, the Lions defeated Glen Ridge 36-19, and Dayton 42-14 all on the road to advance to the Section 2 Group I State Championship game against New Providence. The Lions lost to New Providence 21-8 in the North 2, Group 1 State Championship at New Meadowlands Stadium, in East Rutherford, NJ, on December 4, 2010.

Varsity Softball Team (2009-2010)
A great season for the lady lions softball team. They were able to get into both county and state championships but lost both in the first round. It was very unfortunate but it is historic because it was the best Lincoln's softball team ever done. The team consisted of 14 players: Yaritza Alvarado, Barbara Brundage, Crystal Canas, Janella Castro, Indigo Hatcher, Liseydi Nunez, Raquel Smith, Ganaia Swinton, Imani Valle, Samantha Vega, Suleima Villa, Shavannah Wade, Johanna Washington, and Skyle Wolkowski.
