Alex Lifschutz and Ian Davidson met working on the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank Headquarters for Foster and Partners

After the death of Ian Davidson in 2003 the practice became Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands with Paul Sandilands as Partner. It moved to the former Island Records

 home in St Peter's Square, Hammersmith, purchasing the building from the then owners of Island, Universal Music, and converting the former Royal Laundry to a large open-plan studio.

The practice is currently designing a new tramway and public spaces for the City of Luxembourg, a new building for the Jewish Community Centre for London, two residential blocks at the Athletes' Village in the London 2012 Olympic Park, and a controversial residential tower on the South Bank.

The practice is part of Team Populous, the official architectural and overlay design services provider for the London 2012 Olympics, led by Populous

In August 2011 it was announced that Delancey and [[Qatari Diar]], working with Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands, beat rival developers to purchase the 2,800-home London 2012 Olympics Athletes’ Village in Stratford.

The practice has won numerous awards including several RIBA Awards, four Royal Fine Arts Commission Awards including Building of the Year for Broadwall Housing, six Civic Trust Awards and "Office Architect of the Year" from Building Design in 2007.
In 2011 the practice's Tsvetnoy Central Market project won the Society of British Interior Design
