and ordained in 1929. He was a CMS Missionary

from 1930, working in the Highlands. He rose in time to be Archdeacon

and Assistant Bishop
of the Diocese
before elevation to the Episcopate as Bishop of Mombasa, then Archbishop
of East Africa
. A prominent member of the Royal African Society, he retired in 1970 and died on 16 December 1987. He is buried in the cemetery
