in Chemical Engineering in 1986. He completed an executive management programme at the Harvard Business School
in 1997 and a management programme at Tsinghua University
in 2001.
Lee began his career at the Economic Development Board
. He was based in Washington DC and Chicago from 1993 to 1997, as well as Suzhou in China from 1997 to 1998. Lee was appointed Deputy Chief Executive of the Singapore Productivity and Standards Board in 2000. The following year, Lee was appointed Chief Executive Officer of International Enterprise Singapore
.
As MOS (MTI), Lee actively promotes economic exchanges and international trade and investments with China, Middle East and Russia. Lee co-chairs the Singapore-Jiangsu Cooperation Council, and the Singapore-Shandong Business Council. He is a member of the China-Singapore Joint Committee for Bilateral Co-operation, the Joint Ministerial Committee of the Tianjin Eco-City and the Guangzhou Knowledge City Steering Committee. Lee is also the Co-Chairman of the Abu Dhabi-Singapore Joint Forum and a member of the Qatar-Singapore High Level Joint Committee.
As the Minister for Enterpreneurship, Lee chairs the Action Community for Entrepreneurship – a public-private sector partnership which aims to champion entrepreneurship and enterprise formation. He also chairs the Quality Service Advisory Council for the public services.
In April 2009, Lee was concurrently appointed as Minister of State for Manpower. Lee oversees and spearheads research and developmental efforts for the joint MOM-MTI National Productivity Taskforce. He is also a member of the National Productivity & Continuing Education Council.
He has a simple philosophy in politics: “Enjoy the people you serve. Help bring about a better life for everyone”.
