History

The name of the village is derived from the word "Lamut" — an archaic name for the Evens
Evens

The village was founded in 1936 as a collective farm

The population of the village, as of 2006 was 230, up from a population the previous year of 213, according to an environmental impact report prepared for the Kupol gold project. Of the 213 people living in the village in 2005, 212 were of indigenous origin. Of these indigenous people, 111 were Chukchi
