 is 24-28 mm. The forewing are contrasting pale grey with dark brown bands. The basal area is grey, covered with dark brown scales restricted by a dense dark brown band. The hindwings are widely triangular, dark brown with a wide, dark marginal band. It is a very variable species. Females are wingless and do not leave the cocoon. The males fly during the day from the second half of June to early August.
