In August 2007, Allure Media launched Kotaku Australia. The site makes use of licensed content from Gawker Media in combination with original stories produced locally. On July 30, 2009, Kotaku Japan was launched by mediagene INC. The site will contain content from Gawker Media translated into Japanese, as well as Japanese-related gaming news. In November 2010 a Brazilian version of Kotaku, Kotaku Brasil (with translated and original content) was launched.

," an achievement and virtual avatar add-on. Concerning the rumor, Sony had told Kotaku that they "do not comment on rumors or speculation" and asked Kotaku not to publish the story. The story was published anyway, and Sony's David Karraker sent an email declaring that the two parties' professional relationship was suspended. Kotaku published Mr. Karraker's email and Kotaku's response from its editor, Brian Crecente. Later that day, Dave Karraker and Brian Crecente spoke on the phone and sorted the matter out, and Sony invited Kotaku to their GDC events and meetings.
