children from isolated locations. They called it Kormilda College. Initial enrolment totalled 121 students from 27 Territory Indigenous communities, pastoral stations and missions. It was not until 1989 that ownership of the College transferred to the Anglican and Uniting Churches and Kormilda College as it is known today, was formed. The Indigenous student population at that time was approximately 200. The new Kormilda College was and still is, administered by a Board of Directors who are appointed by the two churches. In 1991 Kormilda College applied to the International Baccalaureate Organisation (based in Geneva

) to offer the IB Diploma to students in Years 11 and 12. The IB is recognised world-wide as an ideal teaching methodology for students preparing for tertiary study. The College commenced teaching of the IB Diploma in 1993, and a number of College staff are accredited as IB Examiners. In 2004 the College expanded its curriculum to include Year 7 and in 2006 was officially awarded full accreditation by the Council of Internationally Accredited Schools.
