. Since its foundation, KNU has been committed to producing glocal leaders in service, based upon the biblical principle of serving others through evangelical missions and compassionate ministries. In 2009, KNU identified three challenges.

KNU first gained the status of being a four-year college in 1992.

In 1993, the Nazarene Theological College Press was established. In 1994 and 1995, a number of new departments were added. Today it claims to be "Asia's leading university in terms of rehabilitation and social welfare divisions."

KNU is a Christian University.

According to its website, KNU's missional priority is to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

KNU’s specialty is rehabilitation-welfare.

KNU believes that Rehabilitation-welfare is their mission from God. KNU has been chosen by the Ministry of Education as being the best university out of about 400 Korean universities in the field of Rehabilitation and Welfare Studies.

KNU is a Health and Medical University.

KNU's departments of Nursing, Physical Therapy, Emergency Medical Technology and Biomedical Laboratory Science have been approved by the Ministry of Education within recent years, wiuth the expectation that the division of Health and Medicine is the way to achieve evangelism and compassionate ministry.

KNU is a Glocal University that helps Cheonan city and pursues globalization.

KNU, which is located in Cheonan city, endeavors to assist that city, and also to build a stronger relationship with 54 Nazarene universities and 100 International Christian Universities. KNU seeks to attract many Asian students, especially Korean-Chinese and Chinese students so that it can strengthen the China and North Korea mission.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES

Our educational objectives are to produce ministries for world
evangelization and leaders that are devoted to the Christian
doctrines and basic principles of democratic education and
will help communities, nations, and humanity. For these
goals, KNU does research and educates students about new
academic theories and methodologies and how to apply them
in harmony with of the creeds of the Nazarene Church and the
Constitution of the Republic of Korea.

3 Great Challenges

1. Providing 100% English instruction in the establishment of "Owens International College"
Excellent professors at KNU give lectures in English to students. Students
can have easy access to their professors, so these students can greatly
improve their English skills. It is mandatory for these students to go abroad
and have internships, study English, or attend universities as exchange
students. They will be able to get jobs and be global professionals with
international competitiveness through this program.

2. Selected by JoongAng Daily Forbes Korea as “The Global CEO in 2009” - In the field of global educational management.
KNU has become the best university in the field of rehabilitation in Korea
and selected as the most excellent university by the Ministry of Education
and Human Resources Development in several areas such as the amount
of welfare support for disabled students. KNU was given credit for its efforts
in establishing a sisterhood relationship with many foreign universities to
develop into one of the excellent global universities.

3. Beginning construction of the International Building as the hub of international cooperation.
The worship service for construction of the International Building was held
on September 10. The building with five stories above ground and two below
will be completed by July, 2010. Some of the facilities to be included in this
building will be lecture halls, professors' offices, welfare facilities, and
underground parking lots. This building will pave the way for KNU to leap
forward in its plan for globalization and will play a leading role in exchange
programs for foreign professors, foreign students, and Korean students to
strengthen our status in the world.
We will be strengthening international education and acquire experience
through international cooperation with 54 Nazarene higher education
institutions including eight Nazarene universities in the U.S. and 181
universities of Council for Christian Colleges and Universities. KNU will play
a pivotal role in equipping our students with charity, international
competitiveness, and creativeness so they will become global leaders.

5 Basic Educational Principles to ensure 100% Employment of Graduates

KNU educates each student in the 5 basic educational principles to have a strong foundation with which they can play an important role on the world stage. These educational principles are easily neglected, but are basic at KNU. KNU students are ready to be global leaders at any place and time.

1. English Education
KNU develops on-going programs needed for English Education by
offering classroom and on-line educational experiences.

2. Computer Education
KNU establishes courses related to computers through classroom
computer lab and on-line experiences and administers programs for
students to earn qualification certificates in the area of computer
information and technology.

3. Reading and Communication
KNU cultivates their educational principles through a list of 100 books
idea for students from recommendations made by KNU faculty.

4. Christian Character Development
KNU Christian educational foundation inspires and guides students to
develop strong Christian character.

5. Social Service
KNU trains students to serve the community and the world by working
with faculty and staff in mission and volunteer activities.

Special Programs for Undergraduate

-TLC:
Tender Loving Care (TLC) is a system where 'professors care for
students as if parents did to their own children for the sake of the
well-rounded education.' This system is a unique program of KNU
set up in 1999. It is an individual-based customized program
designed to assist students in cultivating personal characters and
learning majors from their entrance to graduation and employment.

-NGLA:
Nazarene Global Leaders Academy (NGLA) is a special academy
established for the purpose of producing global leaders who are
equipped with international competitiveness to embody the
educational ideals of KNU. It offers extra-educational programs in
addition to students, regular curriculum.

-Exchange Student Program:
This program is to send students to sister universities according to
the exchange agreements with them as they do for their own
children by guidance and counseling to provide a well-rounded
education. Students sent to other universities can take regular
courses there and courses offered by another university which is
designated by the presidents of the hosting universities. All the
credits achieved in those schools are recognized in our school.
During the period of this program, students remain studentship in
KNU and the credits achieved during this period are recorded in the
official transcript of KNU as foreign language courses or alternative
courses after the end of the program.

-Language Training Program:
The program allows students to take language training courses abroad
and the courses and credits achieved during the program are
recognized as a credit for language training course. There are 2 types of
courses in this program: short-term training course during summer
and winter vacations, long-term training course.

-Volunteer Service Program:
The Volunteer Service Center at KNU offers volunteer service
programs for students to become social workers contributing to the
development of churches, nation, and society and for professors to
be engaged in social works.

-Chapel:
The chapel performs the most important work at KNU which was
established on the foundation of Christianity and educational ideals
deriving from it. The chapel is in charge of worship services and
other related activities in campus. The chapel organizing student
worship services, holy meetings for faculty and officials, and holy,
religious life for students preaches Jesus Christ through various
programs and is in charge of spiritual life of professors and officials
no mention students.

Graduate School

-Graduate School of Theology:
The Graduate School of Theology is a Christian education center to
produce professional Christian ministers required for the 21st century
under the educational ideals of sound intellect, spiritual, and human
character. Currently, it offers M.Div. (Department of Theology,
Department of Mission, Department of Christian Education, Department
of Christian Counseling), M.A. (Department of Christian Education,
Department of Christian Counseling), and Th.M. (Department of
Theoretical Theology, Department of Practical Theology). Through such
programs, the school is committed to cultivating academic capabilities,
spiritual growth, and compassionate servant leadership.

-Graduate School of Education:
The main objective of this school is to cultivate teachers or education
specialists who are devoted to researching new educational theories
which are suitable for the changing society. Students are encouraged to
study pertinent theories and to search for answers to problems in the
educational field. By doing so, the School is committed to producing
quality educational specialists as well as re-educating and re-training
current teachers and specialists for the advancement of schools in
Korea.

-Graduate School of Rehabilitation Welfare:
The Graduate School of Rehabilitation Welfare is the only advanced
special graduate school of KNU in Korea and furthermore, is known for
its excellence and expertise. The departments opened in the school are
as follows: Department of Welfare for the Disabled, Department of
Rehabilitation Psychology, Department of International Sign Language
Interpretation, Department of Speech Pathology, Department of
Rehabilitation Engineering, Department of Occupational Rehabilitation,
and Department of Rehabilitation Sports. All of these areas are
essential to our society whose purpose is to regenerate humans to live
with human dignity. The Graduate School of Rehabilitation Welfare at
KNU is a field of learning where students are encouraged to discover
new paradigms for holistic rehabilitation to promote spiritual
rehabilitation as well the physical and mental rehabilitation of the
disabled.

KNU offers a field where you can meet the intellectuals in the world and make your dreams bigger through 54 universities in our international networks and 20 sister universities worldwide.
