Once Kokrajhar was a part of greater Goalpara District. The then Goalpara District consisted of Kokrajhar, Bongagaigaon, Dhubri and present Goalpara District. It was then a part of the Bijni Kingdom, ruled by then Koch Rjbongshi kings.
