. He studied at Kanagawa for two years, but then returned home because the family business had gone bankrupt. He then served as a building/construction missionary for the LDS Church in Japan from 1965 to 1967. After working for a year to save up money, he served as a full-time proselytizing missionary

Aoyagi married Shiroko Momose in Japan in 1970 and their marriage was sealed in the Salt Lake Temple

Aoyagi earned his real estate license from the Japan Real Estate Authority. He worked as a sales manager for multiple companies and later as assistant recorder of the Tokyo Japan Temple
