She started her career too early and that had created a lot of tension in her family; she mentioned that on a TV show right after winning the title. She had almost bag packed and left her house. Mitra was in high school when she won the all India title.

Modeling

Mitra started her modeling career while she was still in school. In 2002, she won the beauty pageant Gladrags Mega Model India 2003. She later went on to become the first runner up of Miss Intercontinental in Germany out of 84 countries. Over the years, Mitra has done commercials for Mirinda, Clinic All Clear, Maruti Alto, Jewellery and beauty products. She has done many fashion weeks in Milan and Beijing.

Acting

She featured in a few music videos like Stereo Nation’s Ishq, Aaj Ki Raat, Akh Teri, Channo by Jassi. Her first film appearance was the special appearance in Ram Gopal Verma's Road. In 2004, she appeared in Musafir, alongside Anil Kapoor
