Ko Olina Resort

The Ko Olina Resort is an area of beach and resort development on the leeward side of Oahu
, Hawaii
between Nanakuli and Kapolei on Farrington Highway
and is part of the City and County of Honolulu. Known officially as "Ko Olina Resort & Marina", it has become a master-planned, active family resort community on 642 acres (2.6 km²). It is currently home to the Marriott Ihilani Ko Olina Resort, the Ko Olina Golf Club, the Ko Olina Beach Villas Resort and the Aulani Disney Resort
as well as a public-access beach section at Ko Olina Beach Park
. The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation
was landowner and Jeff Stone developer.
Hawaii State Senator Colleen Hanabusa
introduced a controversial bill in 2003 to offer tax credits of up to $75 million for development of an aquarium at the resort. The aquarium was never built. She defended the controversy when running for US Congress in 2006. Ko Olina Resort eventually returned the tax credit, but the Linda Lingle
Administration and Hanbusa disagreed on how to use the returned funds.
