Although the VeggieTales adaptation remains relatively true to the source, Bathsheba is represented by a rubber duck, thus replacing the sin of adultery with the less difficult crime of theft. But the essence of the story remains intact: the King covets something belonging to his neighbor and takes it for his own; the selfish act is condemned by a king who wasn't so bright.

Plot

The episode opens with Jimmy and Jerry Gourd dressed as Larry and Bob, who soon find them and ask why they have taken over the show. Jimmy and Jerry explain that they thought Bob and Larry needed a break, but Bob replies that he just had a break and does not need another one (a reference to his absence from the previous episode, Larry-Boy and the Rumor Weed

). However, he and Larry allow Jimmy and Jerry to tell a story about being selfish which Jerry narrates (and which is very short).

In the first story an Englishman (Scallion #1) goes up a hill and steals all the bananas which he doesn't eat or share. Then a Swede (Jerry) goes up another hill and steals all the strawberries. Then the men ask each other if they can share but neither of them does. Bob then says the story is too short. Bob and Larry get a letter from Lucy Thomas from Bismark, North Dakota about a problem with being selfish, then start the main story.

In King George and the Ducky King George (Larry) only cares about rubber ducks. His servant Louis (Bob) tries to tell him the kingdom is in a war called the Great Pie War (expanded upon later in Duke and the Great Pie War

) though George doesn't care; he thinks the most important person in the world is himself. George then notices a rubber duck which belongs to a poor boy named Thomas (Junior) and which is Thomas's favorite toy. King George tells Louis to get him the duck, but Louis refuses. Then Cedric (Scallion #) the general says that they need more men on the battlefield. George says Thomas wants to help and tells Cedric to put Thomas on the front of the battle alone, mostly to keep Thomas away from his home so he can take Thomas's rubber ducky. George tells Louis to meet him at Thomas's house so they can take the duck.

King George and Louis steal the duck. Before King George takes another bath, Cedric and Thomas come. According to Cedric, Thomas ended the war all on his own, but has gained posttraumatic stress disorder in the process. Melvin (Pa Grape), a "slightly odd wiseman who shows up every so often" then tells a story based on George's actions to steal Thomas's ducky. At the end of the story he tells King George that "For whether you are a king or just a kid, God wants all to think of others first. You have been selfish King George, and when we are selfish we hurt the people around us just as you have hurt Thomas." To make things right George gives Thomas his duck back and restores his memory by letting him take a hot bath in his tub. He apologizes and then prays to God that he is sorry. It ends with a song about sharing. According to Bob, George gave his ducks away the very next day to say sorry for his selfishness.
