The school was opened in 1966, and the King Campus was demolished in 2008 so that a new school could be built at the same site. As a result, grade four students were taught at the Eva L. Dennis Building for the 2008-2009 school year, and grades five to eight were taught at a segregated area of King City Secondary School

The new King City Public School is larger than the original because it will house grades K-8. It will open in September 2009. Eva L. Dennis Public School, which currently houses grades K-4, will be demolished in the summer of 2009 and will not be rebuilt.

The school's mascot is a cobra and the school's colours are gold and green.
