. It is predominantly residential, with a boom of high rise constructions and modern apartments, as the area has seen major re-developments.


Construction in Khair Khāna began during the late 1960s and early 1970s, as a plan to expand the city of Kabul. Many of its residents are from the north of the country and are ethnic Tajiks

. Khair Khāna has one of the largest concentrations of Panjsheri people in Kabul city.
