Born in a Philadelphia suburb, Michael's mixed race heritage has deeply influenced his music. A self-taught vocalist, Michael has memories of bursting into song as a child, "My mom was so embarrassed to take me to the mall," he recalls with a laugh, "I would sing 'Me So Horny' at the top of my lungs!"
