Kenton has a population of only about 1000 people, but is a popular holiday resort, and the population triples over the period of the December Summer holidays. The area has many pristine beaches and green rolling hills, and a nature reserve along the shore ensures that no housing developments can spoil the coast.

Unusually for a small town in South Africa, Kenton is predominantly English-speaking, while Boesmansriviermond on the opposite banks of the Bushman's River, is predominantly Afrikaans-speaking. Being in the Eastern Cape, the townships and surrounding areas are Xhosa
