He was educated at the Nova Scotia Agricultural College. Streatch married Barbara Blackburn. He served in the province's Executive Council as Minister of Labour and Manpower, Minister of Public Works, Minister of Fisheries and Minister of Lands and Forests. Streatch was president of the Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture in 1972. He was an unsuccessful candidate for a seat in the Canadian House of Commons in 1993 and 1997.
