Biography

Extract of Sir Ken's biography from the DfCLG:

"Sir Ken Knight was the Commissioner for the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority. He started his fire service career in Surrey in 1966 and has served in a number of other fire and rescue services including Devon, Dorset, West Midlands and London. During his career he has been seconded to the Home Fire Service Inspectorate and chairs a number of national committees. He is a board member of the Chief Fire Officers Association and adviser to the Local Government Association and chairs a number of national committees.

"He was awarded the Queens’ Fire Service Medal (QFSM) for distinguished service in 1991 and honoured with the CBE in June 2001, the Order of St John in 2005. He was Knighted in Her Majesty’s Birthday Honours in 2006 and appointed one of Her Majesty’s Deputy Lieutenants of Greater London in the same year. Sir Ken was born in Croydon, Surrey."
