Keith Lloyd Faber is a Republican
member of the Ohio Senate
who has represented the 12th District since his appointment in January 2007. He also serves as President pro tempore, the second highest post in the Senate and as Chairman of the Committee on Government Oversight and Reform. He was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives
from 2001 until 2006.

With incumbent Jim Buchy unable to run for another term in the House, Faber sought to replace him. He faced a primary race with fellow Republican Terry Haworth, and won by about 1,300 votes. He defeated Democrat Bill Sell in the general election by about 14,000 votes. He won reelection in 2002, 2004, and 2006.

For the 128th General Assembly, Faber served as Senate majority floor leader, and in the 129th General Assembly, he serves as President pro tempore, the second highest post in the Senate. As President pro tempore, Faber is also vice chairman of the Senate Rules and Reference Committee. He also sits on the committees of Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources; Government Oversight and Reform; Finance; Insurance, Commerce and Labor (as vice chairman); and Judiciary. He also is a member of the Ohio Retirement Study Council; the Legislative Service Commission; the
Senate Select Committee on Redistricting; and the Joint Legislative Ethics Committee.
With Grand Lake facing environmental difficulties with cyanobacteria, Faber helped to secure state funds for inland-lake dredging. The plan is to use aluminum sulfate to help fight the bacteria.
In an initiative to restore five calamity
days to schools following a tenacious winter with lots of snow, the legislation was held up following an amendment which called for public schools to provide non public schools with transportation, which Democrats called an unfunded mandate
. Eventually, the amendment was stripped out of the bill to allow it to pass. Faber, however, stated the transportation measure would be taken up another day.
Faber has been a key supporter of a controversial voting bill that would require photo ID upon casting a ballot. The bill has been criticized by Democrats and the American Civil Liberties Union
. Faber believes the measure is necessary for voter protection.

Faber has sponsored legislation that reforms Ohio's public pensions. "I have serious concerns about the ability of our retirement systems to meet their obligations, and we must fix the plans so that they will be fiscally sound," Faber added in a statement.
