Her work has been compared to that of George Ohr, manifested in "a penchant for crumpled shapes, twisted and pinched openings, and making . . . 'no two alike.' " Butterly's work consists of ornately decorated porcelain sculptures that suggest feminine personalities.

She received her undergraduate degree from Moore College of Art in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
