History

Until the end of the 19th century, wealthy citizens of Bergen had lived side by side with the rest of the city's population. However, as they became increasingly affluent and received more foreign impulses, the upper class soke to free themselves of dirtiness and hecticness of the city. Kalferet, located by to the main road into Bergen, was the natural choice as a quiet but still convenient location. A rather affluent neighbourhood even today, most of the large villas built around 1900 are still intact. Hansa Brewery
