. The name Kabalagala comes from a local type of pancake made from cassava flour and sweet bananas and is spiced with local peppers. Hawkers of this food variety would pull up to motorists as they were waiting to turn right or left at the junction and yell "Kabalagala". Otherwise the original name of the place was "Kisugu", which is now reserved for the more upscale residential area further north and east of the commercial center.

Location

The focus of the Kabalagala neighborhood is the junction of Ggaba Road, Tank Hill Road and Nsambya Estate Road. Spreading in each direction for a distance of about 1 kilometre (0.621372736649807 mi), along each of the three roads, is the neighborhood called Kabalagala. Overview

The main highlights of the Kabalagala area are its many restaurants, bars and night clubs.
Most notable of night clubs, is Capital Pub which is run by a Swiss emigre. Capital Pub follows the main formula of bars in the area which is: (a) lots of girls (b) pool tables (c) satellite TV and (d) loud music. Capital Pub is very well established in the area and occupies a huge building with a tree as the centre of one of the bars, and almost a barn like structure for the rest. Locals call the place "Kinnya" - meaning "The Pit".

Across the road from Capital Pub is Lucy's Bar, which is a small shack-like structure, that has not been decorated in years. The bar is popular with Ugandans from Northern Uganda. However, it is very close to the main road into the slums, which makes it a very interesting place to sit and watch the comings and goings of the local slum dwellers.

Of note, is that, within almost the same distance of the main road intersection in Kabalagala, are both the most expensive and most seedy of places in Kampala. As you drive towards the city center, on Ggaba Road, there is Quality Cuts Butchery, with a delicatessen attached. This is one of the most expensive places to eat in the city.

If you follow Ggaba Road in the opposite direction towards Kansanga and Ggaba
Ggaba
-Location:Ggaba is located on the northern shores of Lake Victoria, at the southern tip of the city of Kampala. It is bordered by Murchison Bay in Lake Victoria to the south and east, the village of Kawuku to the northeast, Bbunga to the north, Buziga to the northwest and Munyonyo to the southwest....

, there is Al's Bar. Al's has exactly the same formula as other bars except it has no DSTV and the music is largely rock music. Al's is very popular after midnight when other places in Kampala city have closed. Often its at its busiest between 3AM and 6AM especially during the weekends.
Due to the numerous eating and drinking establishments in the area, Kabalagala is frequented by tourists and lovers of the nightlife that it offers. Although prostitution is illegal in Uganda, it is practiced, sometimes openly is some of Kabalaga's night spots.
