KVMA-FM was launched in 2004 originally on 107.9 FM, which relocated its frequency from Magnolia, Arkansas
, to the Shreveport area. Before that, there was a time when there were no true Urban AC stations in Shreveport, and there was a three way competition involving area Urban/Hip Hop stations KMJJ (sister station), KDKS and KBTT
(then a Rhythmic). KVMA-FM, now on 102.9 FM since 2005, filled in that format void, but after KDKS, which originally played Urban AC music since the launch only to add Hip Hop product to it, decided to slide back to Urban AC, KVMA-FM altered its format to play mostly Classic Soul and R&B Oldies. Upon the launch of KVMA-FM, the station picked up the syndication rights to the Tom Joyner
Morning Show from KDKS as well. It is also the home of The Michael Baisden Show
in the afternoons, and The Sweat Hotel
at nights.
