The station has been on the air since 1988, bringing NPR programming to one of the few areas of the nation without a clear signal from a public radio station. Before KRPS signed on, the only source of NPR programming in the area was a translator of KSMU

KRPS is one of the few full NPR members that does not offer live streaming.
