as 29 on digital television receivers.

History

The channel 29 allocation in North Texas has been around for a long time. Legendary radio broadcaster Gordon McLendon got a construction permit to put channel 29 on the air as KLIF-TV (callsign to have stood for Oak Cliff) in 1953, and would've been sister station to KLIF-AM. Their broadcasting license was issued that year, but they never went on the air. Since TVs were not required to receive UHF until 1964, McLendon apparently had second thoughts about developing a station that might not have any viewers. Prior to that, their license was cancelled in 1955.

There are unconfirmed reports a station on channel 29 went on the air in 1964 from Downtown Dallas

as KAEI-TV, broadcasting financial news. However, poor reception reportedly led to their demise that same year, and in 1966, three applicants tried to take over channel 29 while the station remained dark.
