At one time, KETK-LP was a complete simulcast of KETK-TV, but that is no longer the case. KETK has modified KETK-LP's newscasts to have a local insert with news for the Nacogdoches/Lufkin area.

History

KETK-TV was originally based in Jacksonville, Texas, with the intention of providing a signal to both the Tyler-Longview and Lufkin-Nacogdoches areas. (The two areas are considered one TV market, although signals from Tyler and Longview can't reach Lufkin and vice-versa.) It later moved its main studio to Tyler, and in 1991 arranged to simulcast its programming in Nacogdoches-Lufkin on full-power KLSB-TV (channel 19) under a local marketing agreement

. KLSB would run most KETK programs, inserting local commercials and sometimes local news.

In 2004, KLSB owner Max Media canceled the LMA, dropped the KETK simulcast, moved the transmitter north to cover the Tyler-Longview area in addition to Nacogdoches-Lufkin, changed the call letters to KYTX

. This left KETK and NBC without a signal in the Nacogdoches-Lufkin area. KETK resumed its simulcast by leasing KLSB-LP in Lufkin on channel 53. The station's call sign

was changed from KLSB-LP to KETK-LP on April 13, 2007.

On Sept. 1, 2009 the KETK-LP Ch.53 transmitter was turned off. The KETK-LP signal is only carried on Suddenlink Communications cable systems in the greater Nacogdoches and Lufkin area. KETK-TV in Tyler programs the same content as KETK-LP, but offers HD when in NBC network.
