Programming format

KERA 90.1 produces topic driven local radio news programs, spot news and music programs mixed with national news, talk shows and radio magazine programs from sources that include National Public Radio (NPR), Public Radio International (PRI), American Public Media (APM) and the BBC World Service. It also rebroadcasts PBS NewsHour in audio format.

Local programs include Think, hosted by Krys Boyd and CEO, hosted by Lee Cullum. Jeff Whittington hosts the call in radio talk show Anything you Ever Wanted to Know. Think and CEO also each have television versions, seen on KERA-TV.

The station used to air the locally produced music program 90.1 at Night hosted by Paul Slavens, which airs Sunday nights from 8:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m. The program was moved to their newly acquired sister station KKXT and was renamed The Paul Slavens Show.

Funding

Like other noncommercial stations in the United States, KERA broadcasts on-air pledge drives to raise money to pay for programming. The majority of KERA's funding comes from membership pledge drives. Additional funding is accrued through corporate sponsorship and underwriting announcements. Only 10-percent of the station's funding is government supported.
