by jumping from a height, or people who have jumped, then survived, often with major injuries and permanent disabilities. A frequent scenario is that the jumper will sit on an elevated highway as police attempt to "talk them down." Potential jumpers are sometimes encouraged to die by suicide by observers, an effect known as "suicide baiting."
