Professor Judith Rees CBE
has been Interim Director of London School of Economics and Political Science since 2 May 2011, following the resignation of Sir Howard Davies from the position on 3 March 2011 following concern over the institution's decision to accept funding from a foundation controlled by the Libyan leader's son Saif al-Islam Gaddafi, and over the LSE Libya Links
. She will step down from the post on 31 August 2012, to be replaced by Professor Craig Calhoun
who was appointed in November 2011.
Professor Rees joined LSE in 1969 as a Lecturer in Geography. Her main research interests include climate change
and the governance of environmental resources and risk.
Professor Rees is also Chair of the LSE's Grantham Institute on Climate Change, a board member of the UN Secretary General's Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation and the International Scientific Advisory Council (ISAC), a director of the Centre for Climate Change Economics and Policy, and a Member of the Dutch
national research programmes on Climate changes Spatial Planning (CcSP) and "Knowledge for Climate" (KfC). Formerly, she acted as an an adviser to the World Bank
on water privatisation.
She already acted as a Deputy Director of the School from 1998 until 2004.
Professor Rees was awarded the title of a Commander of the Order of the British Empire
in 2006.
